A breeze...
I started sleeping in my hammock this past week, because it has been so hot at night. It has been AMAZING! I actually get cold most nights, so I'll probably end up sleeping there until i get tired of it. It is so hot and humid here. I love it when there is a breeze, even a small breeze. It is one of the most refreshing things of my day. Another favorite activity is showering, the water is one temperature...cold. I hated cold showers until i started living in this heat with no air conditioning. One last thing that i am thankful for is the water tower that is on the clinic property. The view up there is awesome of the surrounding areas and the sunsets, for those of you that know me i love sunsets! I had planned on putting up pictures of sunsets and lightning storms I got with my gopro from the water tower. But i forgot my external that has the pictures back at the clinic, so next time.
It blows my mind how cheap food is here. Well i guess when you compare it to food back in the states. Last night we all went out to eat, and 7 of us ate comfortably for around 6 american dollars. I wish my neighborhood had ladies cooking food on the street. Looking ahead I think that will be one of the hard things going back to, paying more than 3 bucks a meal.
Doing chores around the clinic with Ever makes me realize that he is on another level of working hard. It makes me feel like I'm in high school again working for Mr. Jacobson. Mr. J would ask me to do something, and 45 min later come back take over what i was doing and finish in 5 minutes. Things like this happen when i try to help Ever around the clinic. I was pretty proud of my small square of grass i had cut by hand using a machete. Then i turned around and saw Ever's larger square, cut shorter and way nicer, not to mention a lot faster. It just makes me laugh, that he will amuse me, be letting me help him.
We went to the Zoo this saturday. It was an interesting experience to say the least. They were under som serious construction, so there weren't a ton of animals. They had railings, but they were more of a suggestion than anything. We would just hop the railing and walk among the cages. If we wanted to we could have stuck our hands into the Leopard cages, we were touching all the monkeys. The Zoo was not as worried about safety as the ones i had been too in the past. Peru is very lenient on the rules.
Quick clinic story, I was doing consult stuff with the doctor on Wednesday i think. A patient came in with hemorrhoids, and the doctor needed to examine. There was one problem with that, the doctor is very allergic to latex, so if he runs out of his special gloves he has no gloves to use. He looks at me and kinda just starts laughing, telling me to go get some gloves. It was very disturbing, and humors at the same time, I am very thankful though that he didn't make me do the examination to its full extent.

I recently had a coversation about ano-rectal exams with a Colorectal surgeon. The group of medical students concluded that this wasn't something formally taught in the curriculum. He kindly informed us that once we get to third year, we will get every rectal exam assigned to us, since no one else wants to do them. Glad you're doing well. Love the blogs!
